February 9 to 12- Carnival

Just before the beginning of Lent, the streets of Alcocéber are flooded with joy and humour in the celebration of its Carnival. A whole weekend in which it is impossible not to be infected by the joy of the locals who celebrate costume dances and parades for both children and adults.

February to March - Festival

A whole weekend in which it is impossible not to be infected by the joy of the locals who celebrate costume dances and parades for both children and adults. The festival closes on the last day with the emblematic and biting wake for king Carnestoltes and the burial of the sardine.

29 April 2024 - Saint Pedro de Verona

29th April is the feast day of San Pedro de Verona, patron saint of the local young bachelors, popularly known as “fadrins”, who are in charge of organising a week of festivities in honour of the saint.

The main events revolve around bullfighting and the singing of “Les Albaes”, a peculiar style of traditional Valencian singing that dates back to the Middle Ages.

Second Sunday in May - Los Desamparados Virgin

The second Sunday in May is the day of the patron saint of Alcala de Xivert, Alcossebre, the Virgin de los Desamparados.

It is a very special day for the municipality, which sees its historic centre decorated for the celebration of the mass and subsequent procession from the Church of San Juan Bautista. Numerous locals dressed in regional costumes and the local music band take part in the procession.

23 June 2024 - Bonfires of San Juan

On the night of 23rd June, coinciding with the summer solstice, the festivity of San Juan Bautista, patron saint of the municipality, is celebrated with the burning of bonfires on the beach..

For this, neighbours, friends and visitors gather by the sea and pile up firewood, old furniture and other belongings to set them alight at the stroke of midnight and enjoy the purifying effect of the bonfires.

August - Patron saint festivities in honour of St John the Baptis

In Honour of Saint Juan Bautista and the Sacred Heart of Jesus

In late August in Alcalá, and in early September in Alcocéber this is celebrated. The festivities of these dates revolve around the bulls which have their horns set alight, processions, fireworks and festivals are also celebrated late into the night.

Among its most typical of events include the presentation of the Queen and her maids of the fiestas and the constructing of a bullring.

Last week of September - Moros y Cristianos

During the days of the festival of San Miguel the invasion of the Moors and Christians are celebrated, which is one of the oldest and most notable events of Valencia.

Parades and symbolic acts are reenacted each year to represent a clash of cultures from past times.

To finalise the end, bonfires light up the night accompanied by music and dancing.

ROUTE "ALCALÀ AND LA TOMATA DE PENJAR"

GASTRONOMIC ROUTE in which you can discover the heritage of the town and learn more about how the tomata de penjar is grown and produced, through an exhibition and a small tasting with which the visit will end. We will walk through the streets of Alcalà de Xivert with special attention to the tallest bell tower in the territory and the majestic Church of San Juan Bautista. We will be able to taste the tomata de penjar and we will learn more about the process of cultivation and elaboration of this variety of tomato so appreciated.

THE TEMPLARS OF XIVERT: Two characters facing each other and two completely opposite ways of life that will help us understand the uniqueness of the environment that surrounds them. On the one hand, we will discover one of the best-preserved Islamic castles and villages in the entire province. On the other hand, with the arrival of the Order of the Temple, we will immerse ourselves in the remodeling and expansion of the fortress, becoming a banner for Knights Templar. Two very different eras and two very peculiar characters who will do the impossible to become the best hosts.

DRAMATISED ROUTE THROUGH THE HISTORIC CENTRE OF ALCALÀ DE XIVERT: THE HERITAGE OF THE TEMPLE. THE ADVENTURE BEGINS! Walk through the historic centre of Alcalà de Xivert with one of the knights who ruled the Maestrazgo, getting to know all its most important monuments through his eyes and that of his ancestors: the Templars.
It is a dramatized route that connects the main monuments such as the church, the bell tower, the house of culture, its modernist houses and the town hall with the secrets of those who founded our municipality.

A FOREST FULL OF POSSIBILITIES: In the past, our ancestors found in our Serra d'Irta natural park a forest full of flowers, plants, fruits, mushrooms and berries that they used to prepare many of their dishes. On this hiking and gastronomic tour we will enter the virgin Mediterranean forest of the Serra d'Irta to find and get to know each of these unique flavors and taste their delicacies such as their honey, their mushrooms, their strawberry trees or their liqueurs.

LOST TOWNS: Our municipality was a border land. A place of struggle between kingdoms and empires, hence the construction of Xivert Castle. But what if we told you that it was not the only castle? The ruins of the castle of Tauranza, on the border of the Taifa of Valencia, and its villages of Castellnovo and Almedeixar are still hidden from the world in an unknown place. Desired by Carthaginians, Romans, Muslims, Templars, the bishop of Tortosa and the scene of the first level of the Civil War, this cursed place, abandoned to the passage of time, waits to reveal its secrets to those who have the courage to reach it.

December 13th 2024 - Saint Lucia

When the holiday doesn't fall on a Sunday, the following Sunday is celebrated.

A typical religious pilgrimage, where both local residents and the surrounding villages of this peculiar religious festival gather. On the eve of the fiesta, the overseers and young people gather to spend the night around bonfires.
